Did anyone else spot this on the back page of the Feb study watchtower (just finished it today). There is a proud display of clips from the photo drama and they have selected one showing a "Gigantosaurus - 160ft long- the largest animal known". From what I've researched, no such dinosaur existed (though in 1914 they may have thought otherwise) Most people know that the blue whale is the largest animal that has ever existed, so the question is; Why did they choose this clip? Is someone on the inside trying to find incriminating pictures? Is it just unlucky incompetence? Unless it is deliberate, showing it displays a pretty poor knowledge of science (as if that's a surprise to any of us)

Letter to BOE: Adjustment in process for appointing elders and ministerial servants
by pixel inhello, you read it here first!.
governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
to all congregations.

Just a couple of quick points - does this mean that current elders & mss wont be viewed as appointed? If so, will the next visit involve a review of every current appointment (and if not, why not based on this letter) Anyone here around in the early 70s when the elder arrangement came in - were all existing appointees reevaluated then?

Oh come on!!! seriously?? This weeks wt study!
by stuckinarut2 ini'm sitting here at the mtg, and i can't believe the mind numbing stupidity of this weeks wt "study"...( i use the word study loosely too by the way...).
how many dumb repeated questions can be posed to try and make a point?.
the opening paragraph illustration re blindness is classic!

So far I seem to have got away with referring to it as the "generations" teaching.
Anyone else notice that there were supposed to be three reasons why we are near the end, but only two were in the review questions - yes the generations weren't mentioned again evidently (a word which can be used to "prove" almost anything) cos nobody could explain it.

Anyone been watchtower conductor
by Saltheart Foamfollower ini think there is a good chance i'm going to be asked to be the watchtower conductor.
on the one hand, i'll find it quite difficult some weeks having to go along with what is written.
on the other hand, there'll be opportunities to ask controversial questions (within limits).

Wow I feel like I've made it now - Outlaw's posted to my topic
Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm going to re-read them a few times before I decide what to do. I probably wont be asked now.

I dropped TTATT to some door knockers today

That was just fabulous! Well done. I've been on the work and seen brothers tied in knots by evolutionists (I just keep quiet cos it's their door) and then come away and think they've won the argument. Inside I'm laughing at them. Maybe I should ask how they think they did and what else they could have done to prolong the misery.
BTW, am I the only one who keeps glancing at this subject and thinking it says "I dropped some knickers today"?

Just to put my situation into a little bit more context, I have been mentally out for about 15 years now (used to lurk on newsgroups back in the dial-up days) Searcher - any conscience I had has been well and truly buried. I realised fairly quickly that I was comfortable in living a lie if I could get in some genuine truths/facts every now and then. To do that I need to be an elder. I can't judge how much of an effect, but if no one listens, why are they so worried about individuals reading apostate literature/web sites? My favourite approach is to use the borg against itself. If I was taking tomorrow's watchtower, in the paragraph about the generation, I would ask how you would prove that to someone. Most would look blank and forget it. Some would just repeat what the watchtower says. One or two might go away and do research and realise they cant prove it because it is nonsense.
Oubliette - I really am greatful for your concern and advice. I haven't decided yet, but it will be my decision and not the borgs. BTW, did the brother get couselled for going over time with his talk? It would be just like them to totally miss the point.

Thanks for the advice - I know that making subtle comments doesn't work. In the past I've tried to get some to at least start thinking about what they believe - I once mentioned that the 14th century fit the description of the last days (then went on to disprove it of course) and had at least one brother discuss it with interest afterwards. Although he is still at meetings, he gives evidence that he knows what is really going on. If I do take the job, I would try to gradually educate some to "prove" what they are saying, which then gets them to think. It wont work with many, but if I can help one to escape it would be worth it.
I'm not ready to exit or even fade yet as it would cause too many family problems. One elderly relative seems to have dementia and the upset could prove fatal, so I will wait until the natural course of events happens (that sounds heartless - I am just being vague to protect my identity. I will be devastated when it happens)

Any other suggestions definitely welcome.

Will firing the DOs be the first step to a new Watchtower?
by Juan Viejo2 inagainst my better judgement, i've decided to share the following as a response to guy pierce passing and the announcement of the elimination of district overseers later this year.. late in january (2014) i got an email from one of my contacts (a fader) who served at bethel for several years, but is no longer at wt hq.
he still has a lot of close contacts within the service department and in other departments at patterson and knows people in all of the ny offices.
i kept this email set aside on a flash drive and haven't shared it with anyone - figuring i'd publish an article about it later this year when i had more time to do it right.
